On feeling defeated, defying perfection, and Bailey's Pound Cake
I’m going to keep today’s newsletter short and sweet because I am TIRED. Day Light Savings absolutely wrecked me this year and I feel like it’s just gotten harder as the week progressed.
I did wake up feeling inspired this week to finally get my morning routine in check, but by 3pm every day I was dragging. DRAGGING. I fell asleep with my book on my chest which I’m quite certain I haven’t done since I was a child.
I write a lot about routines and how they help me, but my friends said something really important to me this week: routines don’t have to be perfect.
If I sleep through my alarm, that doesn’t mean I have to throw away the whole routine. I have an ideal routine, but I also know what are the things I need the most in order to set myself up for a good day.
-No scrolling in bed
-#ReadAndRise for at least 15 minutes
-Staying off my phone until lunch time
-Getting Ready & Making the Bed
-Following through on a promise I made to myself (whether it’s a work out, writing/editing, completing a chore)
I have become the worst with scrolling. Right now, if I’m being honest, I’m feeling pretty defeated with social media. Things keep changing, I feel like I can’t keep up, and instead of taking time away to refresh my creative spirit, I’m mindlessly scrolling and comparing myself.
Don’t get me wrong, I do not determine my worth from my social media. But it’s become something that I put so much into and don’t get a lot out of right now. I’m still around, posting on my website and having fun. I don’t plan on going anywhere, but I’m in a season right now where I just feel very, very defeated.
Sigh. So much for keeping today’s letter short. Keep reading to see what you may have missed on the blog this week as well as the 5 items I am loving and the 5 items that have been the most popular links this week!
Sorry this was a bit of a bummer. To make up for it, here’s the recipe for my family’s famous Bailey’s Irish Cream Pound Cake! We had it last night and I also made one for my friend’s birthday last night.
Have a great weekend!
