The Bookmark No. 40
on snow days, my hockey romance era, and saying no.
We’ve entered the period of Winter were we don’t see the sun very often and it snows daily. After the Christmas blizzard, I’m not looking for any big snowstorms for the rest of Winter but a couple inches is nice and calming. There’s something about the way the snow rests of the bare tree branches that makes it seem like everything is covered in silver frosting. Plus, Beasley loves it and you can’t help but smile when you see your puppy bounding through the snow drifts.
Best part of the snowy week, I ended up with three snow days off from teaching and rehearsal, which my body and mind desperately needed.
I love to read seasonally and that’s been the hardest part of being a book reviewer, but you have to read ahead. Right now, I am deep into a Wintery Romance era. Lots of hockey romances, stories set at ski lodges, and even catching up on some of the holiday novellas I didn’t get to.
There’s just something about reading seasonally that makes me enjoy books more. Sometimes I want to be transported to a different time and place, but right now I am all about my fictional settings matching my current surroundings.
Winter is the time I want to stay home, especially when I’m really busy. I’m trying to be protective of my free time because I know I do my best when I’m not overwhelmed with social plans. It’s hard to say no, especially to friends, but as someone who never used to respect my time and energy, it’s very freeing to be honest with people about not making plans.
That’s what has been on my mind this week! Have a great weekend my friends.
