If you can believe, this is the 100th edition of The Bookmark! It has been a long week that started in the Catskills, met up with a Sabrina Carpenter concert midweek, and is ending with getting ready for a busy weekend. September has certainly been short and sweet.
My best friend and I traveled to Toronto this week for a concert and were able to have a blast together but also chat about some of the more serious things going on in our lives. After this incredible month of social plans, I realized that I need to push myself a little bit more.
Like most readers, I am a homebody. I am an introvert through and through and I love to be in my own space. I love not feeling rushed and like I can control most of the things in my life. I have never been very outgoing and I am often drained with too many social plans.
But in this season of my life, which has been overwhelmed with sad and scary times, I realized I am finding happiness by living loudly.
I don’t think there is anything wrong with a quiet life. I think quiet is beautiful. Quiet is my preference! And yet, a month that has consisted with a large author event, returning to work after Summer break, a long weekend trip, a concert, working at the bookstore, and a large party with many new faces, I’ve been left feeling happy and content.
I’ve also been left craving more. I think in the age of social media, it’s very easy to shut ourselves off because we can keep up with our friends and family with little to no effort. You don’t have to pick up the phone to check in, birthdays are easy to remember because someone is always posting about it, and you can see that their vacations are amazing.
Except that is not living! That is not keeping up with our friends and making an effort to go out and live.
Home and alone is my comfort zone. But it will always be there. Right now, I want to get out and have fun. It’s an exciting feeling.
Thank you for always reading and supporting The Bookmark, in its many iterations. I’d love to hear from you any topics you like reading about in this space as we move to celebrate the next 100 issues.
